Phylicia Rashad Joins Season 3 Cast of HBO's 'The Gilded Age

Phylicia Rashad and numerous Broadway stars will join the cast of HBO's drama series The Gilded Age for season 3.
The network made the announcement on social media on Monday, June 17.
Rashad has been nominated for an Emmy and won a Tony. She will collaborate with Tony winners Brian Stokes Mitchell, Victoria Clark, and Tony nominee Jordan Donica.

The historical drama is around clashes between the old and new wealthy elites in New York City during the Gilded Age of the 1880s.

Rashad will play Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland, who is billed as "a woman from a prominent family in Newport with roots dating back to the American Revolution." Donica will play her son, Dr. William Kirkland, a "kind, handsome doctor from the distinguished Kirkland family." He is not as closed-minded as the elder members of his elite social group. After visiting Arthur Scott's drugstore as a youngster, he was inspired to become a doctor and aid others."

Mitchell will play Frederick Kirkland, the family patriarch and "the pastor of a prominent black church."

Clark has been cast as Joan Carlton, a "gentle, genial woman from the old money side of New York high society." She is sincere and supportive of her kid, but is astonished to find herself in a confusing and demeaning situation."

The series was created and executive produced by Julian Fellowes, executive producer Gareth Neame, executive producer David Crockett, director/executive producer Michael Engler, executive producer Bob Greenblatt, writer/executive producer Sonja Warfield, and executive producer Salli Richardson-Whitfield.
