Kristoff St. John is getting a documentary
Kristoff St. John, who played Neil Winters on The Young and the Restless from 1991 until his terrible death in 2019, was a fan favorite. A new documentary about his life reveals that the renowned actor led a difficult life that only those closest to him were aware of.
Y&R followers continue to mourn Kristoff St. John's death at the age of 52 from hypertrophic heart disease caused by heavy alcohol consumption. Kristoff, a documentary directed by the acclaimed Bobby Razak, will premiere in 2025 and follow the life of the Y&R icon. People has released an exclusive preview for the film, revealing intimate details about St. John's troubles.
Among the hints in the teaser is that he didn't have a typical childhood because he was a kid actor, appearing on shows like Happy Days and Wonder Woman, among others, as he grew up.
His ex-wife, multi-year world boxing champion Mia St. John, gives contextual narration, and St. John's own remarks may be heard throughout. In one segment of the video, it is explained that his family was followers of an Indian spiritual leader named Sathya Sai Baba, and St. John had a disturbing revelation about the guru, admitting, "With shame and embarrassment, I told my dad in Baba's private room, Baba had fondled me and sworn me to secrecy, claiming that he was giving me divine purification."
He soon put his acting career back on track, stating, "I was working with the best, starring in television shows and films." "I was back." Mia went on to say that as his career was resuming, St. John became addicted to drugs, and she explained another reason for his addiction: "After Sai Baba and the sexual abuse, he started using crack. "It became an obsession."
She eventually indicated that many of his broad, complex concerns originated from his mental health, noting, "What most people didn't know about Kristoff was that he was bipolar." He suffered from a mental disorder."
His drug use became so severe that Mia noted, "One day before I gave birth, Kristoff started back on crack cocaine." She went on to say that he would frequently go to work at Y&R while suffering from DTs, or delirium tremens, caused by alcohol withdrawal, and that he couldn't recall his lines. He simply could not work." Their kid Julian also had mental health issues, and she claimed that when this was found, Kristoff "just didn't know what to do."
Sadly, Julian died by suicide in 2014, pushing St. John over the edge. He stated that when he learned about it, it was "the worst call I'd ever had in my life," later adding, "It's every parent's nightmare."
Mia described St. John's problems, saying, "He couldn't find a way out. He could not save himself. "Nobody could save him."
