Kendrick Lamar Unites West Coast Rappers on Drake's Diss Track 'Not Like Us'
Kendrick Lamar commemorated Juneteenth with a concert commemorating West Coast rap — and a new round of lyrical punches at Drake.
K-Dot delivered hit after hit at his one-night only "The Pop Out: Ken & Friends" event at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, on Wednesday night.
The Grammy-winning rapper invited a bevy of buddies, including YG, Roddy Ricch, Steve Lacy, Ty Dolla $ign, Tyler, the Creator, Dr. Dre, and more.
Kendrick's first live performance since his rap rivalry with Drake was streamed on Prime Video and the Amazon Music Twitch channel.
Kendrick took numerous shots at Drake with the diss tune "Euphoria," before running through some of his other successes, including "M.A.A.D City," "Be Humble," and "DNA."
The performance was started by Los Angeles' DJ Hed of Real 92.3 FM and a group of local Southern California artists. At the end of the night, Kendrick welcomed Dr. Dre to the stage, where they performed "Still D.R.E." and "California Love." Dr. Dre called for a "moment of silence" as he launched Drake's diss hit "Not Like Us."
With DJ Mustard on the beat, Kendrick delivered a high-energy rendition of the track, while the hometown crowd repeated the lyrics. The Compton rapper was not finished with his Canadian opponent. The other musicians returned to the stage and helped Kendrick perform "Not Like Us" five times. K-Dot closed the show by having all of the performers pose for a group photo. He said that several of them were from competing street gangs, but they had come together in "peace."
“Let the world see this,” Kendrick said. “This is unity at its finest. Inglewood, California, y’all did this. Los Angeles, y’all did this!” He added, “We done lost a lot of homies to this music sh-t, to this street sh-t. For all of us to be together on stage, that sh-t is special.”
You can watch the show on prime video.
