Make it stand out.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Think Agatha Christie, Think Clue and Daniel Craig with a ridiculous accent. That doesn’t begin to describe the exciting roller coaster that is Knives Out. Writer/director Rian Johnson weaves his magic wand over an all-star cast that will keep you guessing while simultaneous laughing your head off.
The Thrombey Clan gathers to celebrate Patriarch Harlan’s birthday however amidst the celebration a murder occurs. Backstabbing and Fake posturing make everyone a suspect.
Is the Thrombey Family this loyal tight-knit unit or are they just hanging on long enough to get control of the Family’s money? Knives Out works brilliantly as a murder mystery. Rian Johnson does a great job of keeping the audience guessing. This is brilliantly done by the fake affection each family member professes towards each other while secretly plotting. There’s plenty of motive to go around. The best part of Knives Out is the humor. It’s intelligent and witty. A great example of this is Jaeden Martel as grandson Jacob Thrombey. He’s the sole Trump Republican in the bunch constantly reporting the family’s movement over social media. Johnson wrote a stellar movie however it’s the cast that brings this group of misfits to life.
Toni Collete fresh off her turn in Hereditary is back with another outstanding performance as Joni Thrombey. We are so used to seeing her in dramatic roles that we forget that she’s a great comedic actress as well. Chris Evans as the eldest Thrombey Grandchild Ransom shows that there is life after Captain America. Veteran Actors Don Johnson and Jamie Lee Curtis remind everyone why they continue to work in a Hollywood that isn’t always kind to mature actors. The best and most fun character is Benoit Blanc. Daniel Craig gives one of his best performances as the over the top private eye. The southern drawl he exercises in this film will have you in stitches. He’s a man obsessed with his talents and isn’t afraid to refer to himself in the third person. Michael Shannon and Christopher Plummer are equally strong in the dysfunctional web disguised as family.
In charge of separating fact from fiction is Lt. Elliot aka LaKeith Stanfield.
Knives Out is a play on the current climate of elitism and immigration. A good example of this is that no one in the family knows nurse Martha country of origin. They keep referring to her as family while reminding her that she’s the help.
Rian Johnson gives enough plot and turns to keep you guessing till the end. The political context is obvious but delivered with humor. Knives Out is undeniably one of the best films this year. Simply due to the fact that it’s beautifully shot, intelligently written and just entertaining.
