Marvel is Back
The Marvel superhero tale drew legions of fans to theaters and debuted first, earning a projected $205 million domestically, according to box office tracking company Comscore on Sunday.
The summer blockbuster is also the highest-grossing film in the world, with a total of $438.3 million.
Domestically, the picture starring Ryan Reynolds (as Wade Wilson/Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (as Logan/Wolverine) was shown in 4,210 theaters in the United States and Canada, with a gigantic per-theater average of $48,694.
The humorous plot follows Wade Wilson as he recruits a Wolverine variation to save his universe from extinction.
Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Dafne Keen, Jon Favreau, Morena Baccarin, and Leslie Uggams round out the cast, which also includes some Marvel Cinematic Universe performers.
This is the third movie in the franchise, following Deadpool, which grossed $132.4 million domestically in February 2016. Deadpool 2 grossed $125.5 million in May 2018.
Deadpool & Wolverine made several new marks, including the best opening of 2024, the largest debut for an R-rated film after Deadpool, and the highest July opening weekend of all time after The Lion King ($191.8 million), according to Comscore.
Critics gave the picture a 79 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 300 reviews.
