Jerrod Carmichael's heartfelt conversation with Tyler, the Creator about his romantic feelings becomes an internet sensation

Jerrod Carmichael advises against developing romantic feelings for your closest friend.

In the premiere of his latest HBO project, "Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show," the funnyman takes a candid look at his growing affection for his buddy Tyler, the Creator, resulting in a heartfelt and unfiltered exchange between the two.

"I realized I was in love with my closest companion," Carmichael, 36, reveals to the audience. "Only 1 in 10 would not receive a recommendation."

The actor from "Poor Things" reminisces about reaching out to Tyler via text to confess his emotions, only to receive a quirky voice note response from the rapper behind "New Magic Wand," calling him a silly name. Carmichael acknowledges his anxiety about the lack of reciprocation of his feelings, and even a year later, he perceives a slight imbalance in their dynamic.

However, the scene depicts Carmichael extending a playful invitation to Tyler for the 2022 Emmy Awards, a decision he humorously acknowledges as ill-conceived during a comedic routine. "We can't even hold each other's gaze for more than a couple of seconds, but you're suggesting we hang out for the evening?" he jests, glancing at his phone on stage to find that Tyler still hasn't replied.

Later, we see Carmichael chatting with some potential Emmy Award candidates, saying he is waiting to see if "someone special who holds a special place in my heart decides to come along."

In the end, the Grammy award-winning artist politely declines the invitation to the Emmys due to prior commitments, despite Carmichael's skepticism about his reason for doing so. In the end, Carmichael extends an invitation to Tyler to share their thoughts and feelings on camera, a proposition that the rapper gladly accepts.

In the following scenes, Carmichael bravely approaches Tyler to address the obvious tension between them, hinting that their lack of communication stems from the unspoken feelings she shared with him. Tyler admits that he dismissed his confession and actively avoided discussing it further.

Tyler exclaimed, "That was a lot to download." "And now we're here, and I still don't know how to respond."

During their heated debate, Carmichael accuses Tyler of evading his questions, to which Tyler coolly retorts that he harbors no romantic feelings towards Carmichael, as they are mere "brothers in arms." A moment of tension is shattered by the sudden arrival of someone bearing food, breaking the awkward silence. "Oh, that's right, you ordered food," Carmichael remarks, and the pair dine together in a comfortable silence.

"Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show" is now streaming on Max. New episodes debut Fridays.
