Coco is getting a Sequel

We'll soon be crossing the marigold bridge again for a sequel to the Academy Award-winning 2017 animated feature Coco.
During an annual shareholder meeting on Thursday (March 20), Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Coco 2 was officially in development with Disney and Pixar. The film is set to be released in theaters in 2029.

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,” Iger said. “And we can’t wait to share more soon.”

The original Coco follows Miguel, a 12-year-old budding singer, as he travels to the Land of the Dead in search of answers about his family past. According to Remezcla, it was "a beautiful, heartwarming, and visually exceptional achievement" and absolutely "the best animated film of the year."

The upcoming feature film will reunite director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Unkrich received an Oscar for Best Animated Feature for his first film. Unfortunately, Molina did not win an Oscar because the rules state that "a maximum of two persons may be designated as nominees." Producer Darla K. Anderson received the second Oscar.
