Bennifer part two is over
After months of suspicion that their marriage was in trouble, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially called it quits.
The "I'm Real" singer filed for divorce from the Air director in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20, the second anniversary of their 2022 wedding in Georgia.
Lopez placed the couple's separation date as April 26, 2024 on the divorce application obtained by TMZ.
According to the source, an attorney did not file the filings. Instead, Lopez filed the paperwork pro se, which means without a lawyer.
While the multi-hyphenate did not specify if a prenuptial agreement exists, people familiar with the case told TMZ that there is none.
For months, there was suspicion that the couple's marriage was hanging by a thread, notably after Affleck declined to attend the Met Gala with Lopez on May 6, despite being the event's co-chair.
On May 15, In Touch Weekly stated that Affleck had "hit a breaking point."
"He's now focused on his work and his children," a source told the magazine. "Ben has already moved out, and they will most likely have to sell the perfect home they spent two years shopping for. They will always love each other, but she cannot control him and he cannot change her. There's no way it would have lasted."
The duo appeared to be extreme opposites when Lopez revealed their romance in her 2024 documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
The superstar singer was shown basking in the spotlight, while Affleck attempted to escape media attention. Nonetheless, he stated that they were attempting to reach a compromise.
"When we got back together, I told him, 'Listen, one of the things I don't want is a relationship on social media.' Then I understood it was not a fair question to ask. It's like if you're going to marry a boat captain and say, 'Well, I don't want the water.' "We're trying to learn to compromise," Affleck said.
They were previously engaged in 2003 but ended their relationship in January 2004.
This was Jennifer Lopez's fourth marriage, and Ben Affleck's second.
