Barack and Michelle had time
On Day Two of the Democratic National Convention, Barack and Michelle Obama returned to the forefront to support Vice President Kamala Harris and take aim at her electoral competitor, former President Donald Trump.
Michelle Obama was the first person to speak.
Early on, the former first lady ignited the crowd in Chicago with a zinger relating to Trump's controversial July 31 comment at the National Association of Black Journalists conference, in which he stated that undocumented immigrants are taking "black jobs."
"His limited and narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who also happened to be Black," she explained when asked about Trump's assaults on the Obamas.
"Who's going to tell him that the job he is currently seeking might be one of those Black jobs?" Mrs. Obama questioned the DNC crowd.
She later described Harris as "one of the most qualified people to seek the office" of president.
Following Michelle, former President Barack Obama approached the stage and compared Trump's presidential campaign to a movie sequel that everyone knows will be terrible.
"We do not need another four years of bluster and mayhem. We've seen that movie, and we're all aware that the sequel is always worse," Obama added.
He then criticized Trump's fixation with crowd sizes, conspiracy theories, and habit of developing "childish nicknames" for his opponents.
The former president also made the DNC audience laugh with a remark on what kind of neighbor Trump is.
"It just goes on and on," he explained. "The other day, I heard someone compare Trump to the neighbor who keeps running his leaf blower outside your window every minute of every day."
Obama concluded his speech by commending Harris and told the audience, "Let's get to work!"
Senator Bernie Sanders, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Harris' husband, attorney Doug Emhoff, also delivered comments on day two.
