A shooting outside Drake's mansion injures a security guard.
A shooting outside Drake's huge estate in Toronto, Canada, gravely injured a security guard.
Police were dispatched to the residence at 2 a.m. local time on Tuesday, May 7. A male with at least one gunshot wound was discovered at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital, according to CBC News.
The security officer was shot while working outside the gate at the residence in Toronto's wealthy Bridle Path neighborhood, police inspector Paul Krawczyk informed reporters on the scene.
The man underwent surgery and was categorized as in serious condition.
Krawczyk declined to answer if Drake, born Aubrey Graham, was home when the shooting occurred. “We are in contact with his team and they are cooperating,” Krawczyk said at a news conference.
“Information is very limited at this time,” Krawczyk stated
According to CBC News sources, the shooting was a drive-by. The security guard's injuries included a gunshot wound to the chest. The man is expected to live.
Drake is now feuding with another rapper Kendrick Lamar. The two hip-hop icons have each recorded diss tunes aimed at the other.
Drake accused the Compton rapper of domestic assault on his tune "Family Matters." Lamar responded in "Not Like Us" by accusing Drake of preying on teenage females, a charge the Canadian rapper refuted. The song, which referred to Drake and an associate as "certified pedophiles," smashed the all-time record for the most single-day plays of a hip-hop song on US Spotify, Chart Data announced Tuesday.
When questioned if the shooting was related to the rivalry, Krawczyk stated that no motive had been identified.
Police are presently reviewing security video for clues.
Drake's 50,000-square-foot residence, known as "The Embassy," appeared in Architectural Digest in 2020.
