André Holland is Huey P. Newton
In the preview for the upcoming Apple TV+ series, The Big Cigar, there is a search for Huey P. Newton, a co-founder of the Black Panther Party.
The six-part limited series, featuring André Holland in the lead role, will be available for streaming starting on May 17th.
Apple debuted the initial trailer this week, featuring the leader of the Black Panther movement discussing his plan to uplift Black Americans.
“I want to transform society. This is just the beginning, ” Holland shared in the video.
The FBI has alternative intentions and initiates a campaign to disrupt the group's activities. The agency officially designates Newton as an "adversary of the state," leading to the initiation of a countrywide search operation.
Newton and Hollywood producer Bert Schneider devised a sophisticated strategy that included the creation of a fictitious film titled The Big Cigar, in order to assist the activist in concealing his whereabouts and successfully fleeing to Cuba.
The ensemble also features Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, P. J. Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman.
Apple characterizes the drama as a "largely accurate narrative" derived from a Playboy magazine article written by Joshuah Bearman, who serves as the series' executive producer (Argo).
Other executive producers on the project are Janine Sherman Barrois and Jim Hecht. Don Cheadle is responsible for directing and co-executive producing the initial two episodes.
The worldwide premiere of The Big Cigar will take place on Friday, May 17, and new episodes will be released on a weekly basis until June 14.
