Act Your Age gets a second wind on Netflix

All 16 episodes of the series premiered this week on Netflix, which has 269 million global users, according to a recent Variety story, citing March 2024 numbers.

The comedic sitcom, starring Kym Whitley, Tisha Campbell, and Yvette Nicole Brown, follows three accomplished Black women in their fifties.

Whitley (You People) portrays Bernadette, a no-nonsense real estate entrepreneur. Campbell (Martin, My Wife, and Kids) stars as Keisha, the group's wild card who is constantly up to something. And Brown (Community) portrays Angela, the former first lady of Norfolk, Virginia, who seeks to reimagine her life after being bereaved by her career politician husband.

The women live in the Washington, DC area, and each is at a crossroads in their life. They find that the best way to move forward in life is together.

The cast also includes Mariah Robinson and Nathan Anderson, Angela and Bernadette's 20-something children.

In a 2023 interview with The View, Kym Whitley compared the show to another successful female-centered sitcom.

“It’s the Golden Girls, except we carry hot sauce in our purses and we go to the clubs. But it’s really about three best friends who live together and we really just go through life solving problems with love and laughter,” she shared.

The comedy premiered with back-to-back episodes on March 4, 2023. According to prior reports, the two-part debut drew 2.14 million people, setting a Bounce TV audience record.

Alyson Fouse (Everybody Hates Chris, The Wanda Sykes Show) is the show's creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Other executive producers include Barry Poznick, Bradley Gardner, David Hudson, Ranada Shepard, and Ken Ornstein. Act Your Age is now available on Netflix.
