Nicki Minaj is arrested in Amsterdam for alleged drug possession, and the rapper accuses police of'sabotage'.
The rapper, born Onika Tanya Maraj, posted an Instagram Live video in which cops questioned her about drugs in her luggage. A fan account reposted the video on X (previously Twitter).
“Oh, I’m under arrest? Under arrest for what?” Minaj inquired.
She was told, “Please stop filming now,” and “could you step in the car please?”
“No, I need a lawyer because I don’t know where I’m going,” she answered.
The rapper is now on the European leg of her Pink Friday 2 World tour.
A representative for Amsterdam police informed NBC News that they "arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs."
According to published sources, Dutch police later announced on social media that the rapper was on her way.
“We have just released a 41-year-old American woman whom we arrested this afternoon at Schiphol on suspicion of exporting soft drugs,” the post said. “The suspect was fined and can continue her journey.”
In a second Instagram video, Minaj spoke from behind the camera to a man in a suit, who informed her that her cops wanted to inspect her luggage again "because you filmed [the police officer]."
In the video's caption, the rapper implied she was being set up.
“They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs,” she wrote. “This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”
Over on X, the rapper retweeted a fan who wrote, “They found weed and have to weigh it in a country where it’s legal??!!! Amsterdam REALLY??????”
Minaj added a caption to the fan’s post, writing: “…told you, it’s to try to make me late so that they can write negative stories. Jealousy is a disease. You know the rest.”
The rapper was on her way to Manchester, England, when the event happened. A video shared on X showed people outside an English stadium yelling "Free Nicki."
