A documentary on Gary Coleman is coming to Peacock
A new documentary titled Gary by Peacock investigates the circumstances surrounding the death of Diff'rent Strokes star Gary Coleman.
In a press release issued Thursday, Aug. 8, the streamer stated that the film "explores the fascinating life and mysterious death" of the popular child star.
Coleman's old manager, Dion Mial, recounts in the teaser that the actor died after a series of failures.
"He replied, 'I just wanted to say goodbye. I can't handle it anymore,' and we cried," Mial says. "His life was full of disappointments. He survived without a kidney from 1985 till his death.
The actor died in 2010 at the age of 42.
"If someone had told me that my life would be like this early on, I would have gotten out," Gary Coleman says in archive film.
The film will also explore the actor's lifelong illness and despair, financial problems, and turbulent marriage.
Shannon Price, Coleman's ex-wife, is shown in the trailer. She looks directly into the camera and says, "People believe I did this. Because I'm the ex-wife, I'm the evil one, right?"
According to Peacock's official description, for the first time, viewers will gain insight into Coleman's world through exclusive interviews with his Diff'rent Strokes co-star Todd Bridges, his former managers, his ex-wife, and his estranged parents, who famously stole his money.
The director of Gary is Robin Dashwood. Dashwood's most recent ventures included the Paramount+ real crime documentary series "The Box."
RAW's executive producers are Louise Norman, Tom Sheahan, Steve Boettcher, and Mike Trinklein.
Gary will become available on Peacock on August 29, 2024.
