During a revealing interview on The Breakfast Club Thursday morning, Wendy Williams, 60, spoke candidly about the difficulties she's faced under guardianship since her frontotemporal dementia diagnosis last year. The former radio host, joined by her niece, Alex Finnie, shared distressing details about her current living situation, which began when she was placed under guardianship in 2022.
“I feel like I am in prison,” Williams said on the show. Charlamagne Tha God, who has been friends with Williams for over 20 years, said she was “trapped in a conservatorship” and unable to do what she wanted.
Williams described feeling emotionally abused due to strict limitations placed on her current living situation.
“I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying? But I feel like I’m in prison,” the 60-year-old said of the New York City care facility where she has been living. “I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s … There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor.”
Sabrina Morrissey was appointed as 60-year-old Williams' guardian, as Williams was deemed incapable of making decisions for herself. Morrissey took Williams' phone away, limiting her contact with friends and family. This was confirmed by both Williams and her niece.
“They won’t allow you to leave or have visitors,” Finnie said on the show. “So you can’t even leave and take a walk if you wanted to, or take a trip or visit family members.”
