Starz's 'Down in the Valley' trailer shows the real-life 'Dirty Delta'
On Friday, Starz published a teaser trailer for the upcoming documentary series Down in the Valley and announced that it will premiere in July.
The teaser provides a "sexy dive" into Mississippi's "Dirty Delta" - from local gatherings to strip clubs and sex businesses. The six-part docuseries, hosted and executive produced by actor Nicco Annan, who plays "Uncle Clifford" on P-Valley, is based on the popular Starz drama about strip-club dancers in Mississippi.
“I can’t wait for y’all to get a taste of this fiercely unpredictable, deep-dive dance into Southern culture. It’s a black mirror of sorts,” Annan said in a previous statement. “Going through the experience of watching Down in the Valley, the audience will immerse and connect with culture beyond the narrow lens of their everyday neighborhoods, and see through a mirrored reflection the forgotten Black American South like never before.”
The docuseries' official description indicates that the half-hour episodes confront "uncomfortable truths, challenges societal norms, and advocates for a more inclusive and enlightened future."
In addition to Annan, executive producers include Katori Hall, the creator of P-Valley, Lydia Tenaglia, Chris Collins, and Jared Andrukanis, co-executive producer for Zero Point Zero. Shoshana Guy served as showrunner.
The series will launch on the STARZ app on Friday, July 5 at midnight ET, and on linear at 9:00 PM ET/PT in the United States and 10:00 PM ET in Canada.
The premiere date for P-Valley will be announced later.
