J. Alphonse Nicholson Joins HBO And DC Series “Lanterns”
J. Alphonse Nicholson, who starred in P-Valley, is the latest actor to join the cast of HBO and DC Studios' upcoming DC Comics series Lanterns, which will star Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler.
Pierre is playing John Stewart, while Chandler is his co-lead as Hal Jordan. Other cast members include Jason Ritter, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen. Nicole Ari Parker has also lately appeared in a major recurring role as Stewart's mother. Meanwhile, according to a Deadline exclusive report, Nicholson will play the younger version of John Stewart Sr.
The movie's official website states that it "follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland."
HBO co-produced the series alongside Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. It was written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The first two episodes were directed by James Hawes. The executive producers are Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes.
Nicholson, most known for her role in P-Valley, has also been in FX's Clipped, Netflix's Madam CJ Walker series, and other television projects. His cinematic credits include Warner Bros.' Just Mercy and Netflix's They Cloned Tyrone. His stage credits include A Soldier's Play on Broadway.
