“Is God”finds its cast and home at MGM/Orion
Amazon MGM Orion Pictures’ adaptation of Aleshea Harris’ Obie Award-winning Off-Broadway play Is God Is has set its cast.Harris will direct and write the script.Kara Young and Mallori Johnson are starring in the film, according to Deadline, with Sterling K. Brown, Vivica A. Fox and Janelle Monáe.Young and Johnson are portraying twins who have experienced trauma from a young age and discover that their mother desires them to perform an inconceivable act.
Deadline reports that the narrative centers on Racine and Anaia, twins who have been disfigured by burns. They have established a lifestyle in which Racine safeguards them, while Anaia withdraws into Racine's shadow. They are taken aback by the realization that their mother is still alive and informs them that she is incapacitated as a result of their father's actions. Additionally, she discloses that their father is responsible for their injuries. The twins are left in a moral quandary as a result of her desire for them to murder their father.
The film is being produced by Tessa Thompson, Janicza Bravo, Riva Marker, and Kishori Rajan.
Initially, a film adaptation of the play was in the works at A24 in 2018, with the now-embattled producer Scott Rudin attached. However, the project ultimately reached its current state.
