Dwayne Wade’s new statue evokes some interesting responses
Social media users have been making lively comparisons of Dwyane Wade's new statue to various iconic figures. Some likened it to Laurence Fishburne's portrayal of "Morpheus" in the Matrix franchise, while others drew parallels to menacing video game villains.
This 8-foot-tall bronze sculpture, unveiled over the weekend by the Miami Heat, stands proudly outside the Kaseya Center. It captures Wade's unforgettable "This is my house" celebration, immortalizing his thrilling double-overtime, tie-breaking triumph against the Chicago Bulls on March 9, 2009.
While the 13-time All-Star appeared touched and amused upon seeing the statue, fans' reactions to this artistic portrayal were mixed.
In a critique on X, a commentator observed that Wade's recently unveiled statue, “looks like a zombie Laurence Fishburne about to chomp on a human.” Another user sarcastically stated, “They got Dwyane Wade looking like that one Mortal Kombat level.
Not all of the response to the legends statue was negative as Heat writer Will Manso shared on X, ““For what it’s worth, finally getting up close to the Dwyane Wade statue, I have to say it looks much better than in pictures.”
Wade on the other seemed quite please with the results celebrating with these thoughts, ““one of the best statues ever created.”
