The Last of Us Season 2 Will Be Available in American Sign Language
HBO has announced that season 2 of The Last of Us, which premieres on Sunday, April 13, will be streamed in American Sign Language (ASL) every week. The first season of the show will also be available to stream on ASL beginning Friday, March 31, allowing viewers to catch up before season 2.
The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams. Season 2 will also see the return of Gabriel Luna as Joel's brother Tommy, as well as the introduction of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Ellie's romantic interest Dina.
This will be the first time HBO's original programming will be available for streaming in ASL on Max. Warner Bros. has previously released ASL adaptations of films such as Barbie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Daniel Durant and Leila Hanaumi perform "The Last of Us" in ASL. Hanaumi also directed the first season of the show in ASL.
“We are thrilled to expand our ASL program and debut our first HBO Original series in ASL with The Last of Us,” said Naomi Waibel, SVP of Global Product Management at WBD. “This debut brings the show to life in an authentic and fully accessible way for Deaf audiences and is another meaningful step towards our goal of offering an inclusive streaming experience.”
