Niecy Nash-Betts reunites with Ryan Murphy
"I'm not sure how it started. "It's like a hole opened up in the world, leading straight to the center of nothingness," Niecy Nash-Betts says in the teaser trailer for FX's upcoming series, Grotesquerie.
The cable network aired the first teaser on Thursday, Aug. 15, depicting a series of horrible atrocities taking place in a tiny hamlet.
Nash-Betts plays Detective Lois Tryon in the horror drama created and written by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken.
The 10-episode series recounts a slew of crimes that have left a small community disturbed. Detective Tryon believes these crimes are personal, as if someone—or something—is tormenting her.
"With no leads and no idea where to go, she turns to Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond) for assistance. However, they become entangled in a nefarious network that appears to raise more problems than answers," according to the official description.
The teaser depicts a woman screaming as a narrator explains, "This killer is sermonizing, proselytizing, and preaching." To understand this monster, we must analyze the killings."
Along with Nash-Betts and Diamond, the drama stars Courtney B. Vance as "Marshall Tryon," Lesley Manville as "Nurse Redd," Nicholas Alexander Chavez as "Father Charlie," and Raven Goodwin as "Merritt Tryon." Travis Kelce, an NFL star, also has a brief role.
Nash-Betts and Ryan Murphy reunite in the series.
The actress received an Emmy in 2023 for her depiction of Glenda Cleveland in Netflix's Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which was also created by Murphy. Cleveland, Dahmer's neighbor, constantly informed police about his crimes, but her concerns were ignored.
The show's directors are Max Winkler, Murphy, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Elegance Bratton.
Twentieth Television produces. Executive producers include Murphy, Woodall, Baitz, Baken, Winkler, Nash-Betts, Vance, Peter Liguori, Nissa Diederich, Eric Kovtun, and Scott Robertson.
Grotesquerie will air on FX on September 25 and be available on Hulu the following day.
