Lil Durk apprehended
On Thursday, October 24, Lil Durk was apprehended in Florida by U.S. Marshals. According to the Chicago Tribune, as of Friday morning, Durk remains in custody in Broward County. Notably, his arrest coincided with the capture of several other individuals in California for their involvement in a murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo.
California prosecutors are pursuing five men in connection with an attempted murder of rapper Quando Rondo, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. The incident, captured on surveillance video, transpired in August 2022 at a Los Angeles gas station and resulted in the death of Rondo's cousin, Saviay'a Robinson.
The murder plot is believed to be an act of revenge for the death of King Von, a rapper affiliated with Lil Durk. Rondo's associate, Timothy 'Lul Tim' Leeks, was initially charged with Von's murder. However, in August 2023, prosecutors dropped the felony murder charges, as reported by Complex.
In a shocking turn of events, five individuals—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—have been charged with serious crimes. The accusations against them include conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, carrying out murder-for-hire that resulted in a fatality, and utilizing a machine gun in a violent crime that led to death. The Tribune has reported that if found guilty of the more serious charges, the death penalty may be considered.
At the heart of this criminal activity is Only The Family (OTF), Lil Durk's hip-hop collective. California prosecutors allege that OTF owns the credit cards used by Grant, Wilson, Jones, Lindsey, and Houston for travel expenses such as flights and rental cars.
On August 18, 2022, five men—Wilson, Jones, Lindsey, Houston, and an unnamed individual—boarded a flight from Chicago to San Diego before driving to Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press. Allegedly, Durk sent text messages to an associate on the same day to arrange the flights. FBI Agent Sarah Corcoran's arrest affidavit reveals that Durk instructed, "Don't book no flights under no names involved wit me."
The party of five established a connection with OTF associate Kavon Grant upon their arrival in Los Angeles. Grant was responsible for reserving the hotel accommodations, purchasing four ski masks, and securing two luxury sedans. The firearms used in the shooting were also provided by Grant to Lindsey, Jones, and a third suspect.
The group followed Quando Rondo and his cousin from a dispensary to a clothing store and service station on August 19. Houston positioned their escape vehicle in the rear of the final location, and Jones, Lindsey, and the third individual exited the vehicle to spray Rondo and his cousin.
