First look at Oscar Isaac in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein
Guillermo del Toro is set to write and direct a new Frankenstein film for Netflix, based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus". The film will be produced by del Toro, Gary Ungar, and J. Miles Dale. The story follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment, ultimately leading to the downfall of both creator and creation. A longtime admirer of Shelley's work, del Toro has wanted to make a Frankenstein film for over a decade.
“The most important figure from English legacy is, incredibly, for me, a teenager by the name of Mary Shelley, and she has remained a figure as important in my life as if she were family,” del Toro said after winning the BAFTA for The Shape of Water. “And so many times when I want to give up, when I think about giving up, when people tell me that dreaming of the movies and the stories I dream are impossible, I think of her.”
Guillermo del Toro's latest Netflix project is Frankenstein. The Mexican filmmaker previously directed the stop-motion film Pinocchio (2022) and the horror anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities (2022) for the streamer. Pinocchio won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
