First look at Mufasa Lion King
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter appear as mother and daughter in the first teaser for Mufasa: The Lion King.
Disney published a trailer for the film on Monday, April 29, showing Mufasa at home in the African Pride Lands.
Beyoncé reprises her role as Nala in the musical prequel to the 2019 blockbuster film The Lion King.
Blue Ivy, 12, portrays Kiara, the daughter of Nala and King Simba (Donald Glover).
The trailer tells Mufasa's origin story, beginning on a snowy mountainside. The film is narrated in flashbacks and features an orphaned lion cub.
Aaron Pierre (Genius MLK/X) stars as Mufasa, a character previously voiced by James Earl Jones at the age of 93. Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Chevalier) plays Taka, his brother.
Billy Eichner (as Timon) and Seth Rogen (as Pumbaa) will reprise their roles from the 2019 picture. Thandiwe Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tiffany Boone have all been named as members of the voiceover cast.
According to the film's official synopsis, "Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick."
Jon Favreau directed the previous film, which grossed $1.6 billion worldwide.
Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), an Oscar-winning director, directs the prequel. Lin-Manuel Miranda, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star, is writing original music for the film.
Mufasa: The Lion King is set to enter theaters on December 20.
