Evil Looms on the New Season off Rings of Power
The first season of Amazon's extravagant Lord of the Rings prequel, Rings of Power, played a long game to answer a slew of questions left unanswered for season two. Now that we've had our first glimpse at the sophomore season, at least one of those questions has been answered definitively. Where is Sauron? Here's Sauron.
Yes, after season one spent so much time convincing us, and Morfydd Clark's Lady Galadriel, that there was nothing creepy, mysterious, or wrong with the strange heir to the Southlands, Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), now that the mask has fallen—and the knowledge that he is the Dark Lord Sauron, who has taken physical form once more—everything else around him can begin to fall as well.
Sauron's appearance in Númenor and the Elf-lands suggests a growing darkness. He appears to be disguising himself as Annatar, the guise Sauron used to persuade Celebrimbor to forge the Rings of Power. And, of course, we get to see a few more of the aforementioned rings, as the show's title promises. But it's a trailer that focuses heavily on those specific plotlines. We see hints of comparable unrest in the Dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm, as well as glimpses of the mystery stranger's voyage to Rhun after discovering he is one of the Istari entrusted to save Middle-Earth.
However, this trailer promises two things: Sauron and rings. And, presumably, some interplay between the two. Hopefully, we won't have to wait the entire season to see one ring in particular.
On August 29, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will return to Prime Video.
