CBS has given the thumbs up for The Gates
Just a few days after announcing the conclusion of The Talk after 15 seasons in December, CBS has revealed that they will be launching a new daytime drama called The Gates. The show is set to premiere in January 2025.
The exact timing of the release will be revealed later, but it looks like the drama will replace The Talk in its timeslot.
The Gates is about the lives of a wealthy Black family living in an upscale gated community. Michelle Val Jean, with over 2,000 episodes of daytime soap operas under her belt and multiple Daytime Emmy and WGA Awards for her work on The Bold & The Beautiful and General Hospital, will be the writer and showrunner for the show.
Val Jean will co-executive produce with Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, and Kimberly Doebereiner.
The Gates was created through a partnership between CBS Studios and the NAACP. The show will be created by a partnership between CBS Studios/NAACP and P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble.
CBS announced on Friday that it will be airing the 15th and final season of The Talk, which will conclude in December.
As reported earlier, the fate of The Talk became uncertain in March when CBS revealed their plans to create a new show called The Gates. The most recent instance of a TV network creating a daytime soap opera focusing on a Black family was in 1989, when NBC premiered Generations. It continued until 1991.
